Trojans take first-place battle with Falcons

Mohammed Syed scored 20 points and Jordan Kelly added 20 to lead the Trojans to the 79-71 win in varsity boys high school basketball, improving the team’s record to 4-1.

The Falcons, led by a game-high 38 from Nick Soulias, fell to 3-2.

Elsewhere Mike Charlebois scored 29 points to pace St. Patrick to a 49-47 squeaker over Westgate, while Keenan Postans dropped 22 on the Superior Collegiate Gryphons in Hammarskjold’s 65-58 triumph.

In junior varsity play, Josh Johnstone scored a lucky 13 points to help St. Ignatius hold off Hammarskjold 51-46, while Ryan Tucker had 19 in St. Patrick’s 61-25 rout of Superior Collegiate.

On the varsity girls volleyball court, St. Ignatius swept Churchill 3-0 to remain perfect at 5-0, Westgate edged St. Patrick 2-1 and Hammarskjold downed Superior 2-1.

In junior varsity girls action it was La Verendrye remaining atop the standings at 4-0 with a 2-1 win over Churchill. St. Ignatius grabbed its second win of the season with a 2-1 win over Hammarskjold and St. Patrick swept Superior 3-0 to keep pace with La Verendrye at 3-0.
