Patrick Sharp will not be bringing the Stanley Cup to Thunder Bay this summer.
Sharp's father Ian told Dougall Media the local NHLer intended to have the Cup in this city during his local golf tournament, set for Aug. 6. However, the Cup was unavailable for that time period, as coach Joel Quenneville will have it. it's the only time Sharp planned to be home this summer.
Instead Sharp will have his day with the Cup on July 26, when he is in a town near Hartford, Conn. Sharp and his wife are building a home in her hometown.
Sharp twice brought the Cup to Thunder Bay after winning the trophy with the Blackhawks in 2010 and 2013.
On both occasions Sharp held major public events with the Cup.
There will, however, be a Stanley Cup visit in the Northwest this year. Duncan Keith will bring the Cup to Fort Frances on Aug. 1. TB Newswatch intends to be on hand for that celebration along with Thunder Bay Television.
