Win and they’re in.

The Lakehead women’s volleyball team took care of business on Saturday afternoon, downing the host Brock Badgers 3-1. A repeat performance on Sunday and they’ll clinch their first playoff berth since 2006.

Vanessa Chorkaway had the hot hand for the Thunderwolves, who improved to 7-8 with the victory. Chorkaway, in what’s likely her final season in a Lakehead uniform, tallied 26 kills and pulled out 18 digs. Brittany MacLeod added eight kills, an ace and two blocks.
Lakehead took the first set 25-21, dropped the second 25-15 and won the last two 25-21 and 25-22.

LU coach Chris Green was bittersweet about his team’s performance.

“I guess a win is a win is a win,” he said in a release issued by the team.

“As a coaching staff we are not completely happy with how we executed this game. However, when you have to win and you want to be considered a good team, you find ways to win.

“So I’m happy for the girls because that’s what they did. Brock frustrated us with their middle attacks and serving. We have to be better dealing with those tomorrow.”

The Badgers and Thunderwolves will tangle again on Sunday. Game time is 1 p.m.
