Thunder Bay skip Zach Warkentin’s rink is the team to beat the Northern Ontario junior men’s curling championship in Sault Ste. Marie.

Warkentin on Monday knocked Idylwylde’s Tanner Horgan 7-2 in a first-place battle, finishing the round-robin in top spot with a perfect 7-0 record.

Earlier in the day he took out Sudbury’s Branden Acorn 7-2.

Horgan and Acorn will battle in Tuesday morning's semifinal, with the winner meeting Warkentin in the championship final later in the day, a berth at nationals at stake.

Nationals begin Jan. 24 in Corner Brook, N.L.
