The Ryerson Rams figured out how to beat the Lakehead Thunderwolves – keep Jylisa Williams in check.
The No. 7 Rams did just that on Saturday, ending the Wolves eight-game OUA women’s basketball winning streak in the process.
Williams, coming off her record-setting 50-point performance Friday against Toronto, was held to 24 points by the Rams, who stormed out to a 14-point halftime lead after the LU star drew two quick fouls and spent the better part of the second quarter on the bench.
The Wolves never recovered, although it was a two-possession game midway through the fourth.
But Lakehead (12-4) couldn’t stop the Ryerson attack, led by Keneca Pingue-Giles, who matched Williams’ 24 points.
Katelyn Andrea had 17 points for the Thunderwolves, with Katie Ulakovic adding 10. But Ulakovic only hit one of nine three-point attempts.
Ryerson improved to 14-3 and are on an eight-win run of their own.
The win could prove costly.
Guard Corina Bruni was limited to just 17 minutes after rolling her right ankle. She returned briefly, but was not a factor after her injury.
