THUNDER BAY – Their postseason bid all but locked up, the Lakehead Thunderwolves now have their eyes on hosting a playoff game.

The Wolves took a step closer to that goal on Friday night, hanging on to edge a hard-charging Guelph Gryphons squad on the road, the 67-64 victory their third straight.

Gillian Lavoie led the way offensively for LU, the veteran pivot posting a team-high 17 points, completing the double-double with 10 rebounds.

Katelyn Zen, the team’s player of the month for January, also had a double-double, scoring 14 points to go with 11 boards.

Nikki Ylagan (11) and Rachel Webber (10) also hit double digits for LU (7-9).

Sarah Holmes came off the bench to power the host Gryphons, scoring 22 points and hauling in 16 rebounds.

A 25-9 second-quarter edge proved to be the difference for Lakehead, who were outscored 41-28 in the second half.

With the loss the Gryphons slipped to 4-13.
