TORONTO -- A spirited second-half comeback fell just short on Friday night for the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

Guard Nikki Ylagan dropped a three-pointer with six seconds to play to pull the visiting Wolves within a point, but Ryerson’s Kellie Ring put it away at the free-throw line, hitting a pair with three seconds to go to preserve a 69-66 for the OUA East-leading Rams (7-1).

Lakehead trailed Ryerson by as much as 20 points early in the third, after the Rams opened the second half with three straight buckets, matching Lakehead's effort in the opening quarter.

An 8-0 run late in the period by the Thunderwolves closed the gap to four, Ylagan draining a pair of three-pointers, part of a 17-point effort by the rookie.

Katelyn Zen added a dozen points for Lakehead (2-6), with Bridget O’Reilly adding 11.

Sofia Paska led all scorers, dropping 18 for the Badgers, Ring finished with 14.

The Wolves continue their two-game road trip on Saturday when they take on the Toronto Varsity Blues (5-4). They host the Brock Badgers next Friday.
