Jylisa Williams made quite the first impression in her Lakehead Thunderwolves debut last week.

She may have topped herself already this week by leading Lakehead to an upset win over a team with aspirations of winning the division.

Williams poured in 25 points to lead the Thunderwolves to a 66-48 victory over the Western Mustangs at the Thunderdome on Friday evening.

Western opened the game with a 10-2 record and wins in nine of their past 10 games.

The first half was a defensive struggle, with Lakehead leading 28-19 at the recess.

The Thunderwolves offence ignited in the third quarter with 26 points to nearly equal their first half output to race out in front.

Ayse Kalkin finished the contest one rebound shy of a double-double by collecting 14 points and nine boards, while Kelsey Bardsley also finished in double figures via three makes from downtown.

Mustangs all-star point guard Jenny Vaughan, who is the conference’s leading scorer for players who have appeared in at least 10 games averaging more than 23 points per game, was harassed by Kalkin throughout the contest and was only able to finish with 16 points.

The two teams will battle in a rematch on Saturday at 6 p.m.
