THUNDER BAY -- Three games in to non-conference play and the Lakehead Thunderwolves are still looking for their first victory.

A week after being swept by the Lethbridge Pronghorns, the hockey Wolves on Friday night were hoping for better results against the visiting Manitoba Bisons, but instead found themselves on the wrong side of a 6-3 decision.

The Bisons took control of the game in the first, scoring four times in a five-minute span on Wolves goalie Justin McDonald, making his first start of the pre-season.

Shaq Merasty scored a pair 39 seconds, with singles going to Johah Wasylak and Kamerin Nault, the Bisons taking a 4-1 lead into the intermission.

Nick Zajac netted one two minutes into the second to extend the lead to four, the lone goal of the middle stanza, which saw back-up Riley Corbin took over in nets for the Thunderwolves six minutes into the frame.

Kelin Ainsworth, Cody Alcock, making his return after suffering a serious knee injury last January, and Tyler Anton scored for the Wolves. Alcock also added an assist on Ainsworth's first-period tally.

Justin Augert had Manitoba’s other marker.

The Bisons out-shot Lakehead 40-21 on the night.

Lakehead slipped to 0-3-0 in the pre-season.
