WINNIPEG -- The Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team hopes to make undefeated weekends a regular habit this season.

They got off to a good start this past weekend, capping off a perfect weekend on Sunday with a 71-52 win over the Manitoba Bisons to take the BOB FM Women’s Basketball Shootout preseason tournament.

Jylisa Williams was named the tournament MVP, scoring 22 first half points en route to finishing the final game with 25 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and seven steals.

Lakehead controlled the pace of the game early, leading 40-25 at halftime.

The Thunderwolves put the game away in the next 10 minutes, doubling the lead to 30 points at one point to enter the fourth quarter with a commanding lead.

Essa Jacobsen, who poured in 16 points and 10 boards for her second double-double of the weekend, earned a tournament all-star nod.

Lakehead had defeated Winnipeg and Brandon earlier in the tournament.

The Thunderwolves head to Montreal next weekend to take part in the McGill Redbird Classic, along with McGill, Regina and Toronto.
