Lindsay Druery’s playing days at Lakehead University may be over, but the accolades keep pouring in.

The Thunderwolves captain has been named the winner of the Joy Bellinger Award, recognizing both her service to the sport and to the advancement of university athletics. On Friday night she was named winner of the CIS's Sylvia Sweeney Award, for excellence in basketball and dedication in the community.

An honours student in the classroom, the Smithville, Ont. native finished her career as the sixth-leading rebounder in OUA history with 828.

She remains active in the community, volunteering as a recreation buddy with the Children’s Aid Society and with the Thunder Bay Boys and Girls Club. She also helps out with the Thunder Bay Wolves basketball club.

Druery was named a second team OUA West all-star in 2011-12, her third straight time being so honoured.

For the national award, presented in Calgary, she was against Canada West representative Lauren Taal of Lethbridge, Dalhousie’s Rachel Harrison and Laval’s Marie-Michelle Genois.

“Lindsay is our team captain and has done a remarkable job representing the OUA and CIS as a positive role model in our community,” said LU coach Jon Kreiner in a release.

“Lindsay is a remarkable, selfless young lady that has embraced the richness of being a student-athlete and she appreciates every bit of the privileges an OUA and CIS athlete receives. She is a true champion.”
