Wolves forward Caria suspended for two games

Forward Matt Caria is out for the rest of the first round of the OUA hockey playoffs.

Forward Matt Caria is out for the rest of the first round of the OUA hockey playoffs.

The Lakehead Thunderwolves leading scorer was handed a two-game suspension on Thursday for a match penalty he incurred in Wednesday’s playoff-opening 7-2 loss to the host Waterloo Warriors.

It means the Sault Ste. Marie native will sit out Friday’s do-or-die Game 2, and if necessary on Saturday, Game 3.

If the Wolves are eliminated in the best-of-three series, the suspension will carry over until the first game of the 2013-14 season, if Caria returns for a final season in Thunder Bay.

The infraction came in the second period, when Caria head-checked Waterloo forward Brett Mackie.

Last season Caria was suspended by the OUA for hurling a racial slur at a Western Mustangs player.
