A weekend sweep has garnered the Lakehead Thunderwolves a spot in the season’s inaugural top 10 men’s hockey weekly rankings.
The Wolves begin the 2012-13 campaign in 10th spot, after beating Guelph twice on the road on Friday and Saturday nights.
It’s their strongest opening showing since 2009-10, the last time they started a season ranked in the top 10 when they checked in at No. 7.
It took the Wolves until Week 3 last season to break into the top 10 and until Week 6 in 2010-11.
UNB tops the poll, chosen by media from across Canada. Alberta is No. 2 and the University of Quebec-Trois Rivieres, the top OUA team, is third. Saskatchewan and McGill, the defending national champion, round out the top 5.
