TORONTO – The Lakehead Thunderwolves grip on the final OUA West playoff berth loosened a bit on Thursday night.

The Wolves, playing the first of three games on the road, were pummeled out of the gate by the host Ryerson Rams, falling 7-2.

Daniel Clairmont scored a hat trick and Aaron Armstrong collected four assists for the Rams, the No. 3 team in the nation who improved to 20-4-1.

Devon Paliani, Chris Marchese, Matt Mistele and John Carpino also registered goal for Ryerson. Sam Schutt had both Lakehead goals, snapping Charlie Graham’s shutout bid with 79 seconds to go in the first, adding a second with five minutes left in the third.

Devin Green was tagged with the loss, yanked after allowing six goals on 19 shots in 26 minutes. Justin McDonald took over and stopped 16 of 17 shots he faced.

Lakehead’s road trip continues on Friday and Saturday night against Waterloo.
