Wolves women capture victory in pre-season opener on road

FREDERICTON, N.B. -- It was a victorious start for the Lakehead Thunderwolves women's basketball squad. 
Jon Kreiner's team weathered a second-half storm on the road in Fredericton, N.B. and pulled away in the fourth to knock off the Dalhousie Tigers 77-59 at the Helen Campbell Tournament.
The Wolves led 43-28 at the half, but the Tigers battled back to pull within five in the third. The women weathered the Tigers, going on a 21-8 run in the fourth to secure the win.
"It was a great first game of the year. The team played well together and withstood a comeback in the third by Dalhousie,” said Kreiner in a release issued on Friday night by the team.
Rachel Webber passed the ball well witheight assists and while Jerika Baldin chipped in six helpers. Guard Cassandra Soulias was 4-for-7 from the three-point line and lead the team with 16 points while Bridget O'Reilly and Katelyn Zen added 13 and 12 respectively for the Thunderwolves.

“We stuck to our game plan and moved the ball well," Kreiner said.

The Tigers' Diedre Alexander and Megan Thompson did most of the damage for the Tigers, scoring 15 points apiece.
The Thunderwolves will continue their momentum tomorrow at 6:00 when they fact the host University of New Brunswick, Kreiner's alma mater.
