The Lakehead Thunderwolves did not get the start they were looking for to kick of the OUA women’s basketball season.
Katie Ulakovic netted 15 points and rookie Essa Jacobsen hauled in 10 boards in her Canadian university debut, but the Wolves fell six points short on the road Friday night, falling 58-22 to the Kingston, Ont.-based Queen’s Golden Gaels.
Liz Boag paced the Queen’s attack with 14 points.
“We struggled tonight offensively but had good stretches of defense. Ultimately the difference was Queens got more loose balls, more out of their defense and beat us on the boards. Katie played a great second half for us tonight but we need to move the ball better and get more offense out of our post position,” Lakehead coach Jon Kreiner said in a release.
The Wolves women will look to get on the winning track Saturday against York.
They host Carleton and Ottawa at home next weekend.
