Health is Wealth is a saying that has been passed on for generations; from great grandparents to parents to their grandchildren. With fitness trends on the rise, people have started prioritizing their health once again.

To bring about a positive impact in society, Paul Hemsworth, a strength coach put a fitness centre in the center of the city, taking a holistic approach to fitness where movement has been the focus. Thrive Strength and Wellness was started by Paul Hemsworth and his wife back in 2014 to create a lasting impact in the community. At Thrive, they take an individualistic approach instead of a set template. Their belief is that finding the root cause of why the person is there would help achieve the best results. Detailed assessments of a person’s physical, emotional, and mental fitness are undergone to determine a person’s fitness journey; whether it’s opting for group fitness or one on one. A combination of one-on-one strength training, group training, and yoga, Thrive Strength and Wellness boasts of a more open space for body movement. With minimal machines and cardio equipment, Thrive Strength is one of a kind in the city.

An amalgamation of chiropractors, physiotherapists, massage therapists has been a welcome boost at Thrive, especially during the time of covid when majority of the fitness centres have been closed for 11 of the 16 months. Unlike hair salons, people are hesitant to come back bearing in mind the risks of coming back to a community centre and weighing their options in terms of affordability. Ultimately, the goal for the coaches and trainers at Thrive has been trying to get people be healthier, especially during a pandemic.

“Wellness industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. The more confused people are, the more people tend to buy something to be healthy and there’s a lot of money to be made here and exploited. Unfortunately, most of these are not evidence based. There is no one diet that works for everyone. Understanding food in general helps better,” says Paul Hemsworth

Taking an individual and geographical approach to diet can go big lengths in increasing our health, according to Hemsworth.

At Thrive, they believe that getting back to connecting to nature and with ourselves could boost our health system. In life and fitness, embodiment and mindfulness in training is what leads us to be able to pursue the things that give us the most meaning, is the motto the Thrive team pushes to practice.

“Small tribes were interconnected with themselves and nature. We need to bring that back,” adds Hemsworth.
