Glorious Night of Racing on Lake Superior
Race 8 brought plenty of sunshine, flat waters and enough wind to make for a beautiful evening of yacht racing. The race committee settled on a course well past the breakwall and anchored freighters with the Welcome Islands nearby.
All 3 heats were competitive and made for some exciting summer racing. At one of the mark roundings, a rules infraction led to two boats taking penalty turns which resulted in an unfortunate twist that cost them their early leads and a shot at the win.
Boats crossed the finish line in tight clusters, a testament to the close competition. Bobsled, Straight Jacket and Gray Ghost took 1st in their respective Fleets.
