Are you curious about growing your own food at home—whether it’s in your backyard garden or on your windowsill?

Grow Your Own, a new virtual series developed and facilitated by fourth-year Lakehead University environmental sustainability student Eriel Strauch, will help you get started.

Designed for all experience levels, the six-part series presented by Lakehead’s Office of Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning explores plant science, nutrition, and sustainable garden design—all with a focus on growing food in a changing Canadian climate. You’ll learn practical, easy-to-understand concepts to help you create a thriving, four-season garden to enjoy year-round.

“I created this lecture series with the hope of enabling individuals, regardless of their background, to think critically and creatively about growing their own food in the context of a changing climate,” says Strauch, who has experience in science outreach, sustainable environmental planning for northern Canada, and integrated pest-management crop scouting for agricultural research and protection.

“My hope is that this series will empower participants to feel more confident and capable of developing their own future-focused, sustainable system that allows them to achieve their gardening goals, as well as learn more helpful information about the complexities of food production along the way.”

Whether you’re a beginner or looking to deepen your knowledge, this series is a great opportunity to help you grow with confidence.

Participate online synchronously or asynchronously, to fit your lifestyle and schedule. Introductory pricing is now available, starting at $25 per lecture and $90 for the full series.

The first class begins on Wednesday, July 16.
