Local Pipe Major Brings Home the Gold

Bill Peters, Pipe Major of The Lake Superior Scottish Regiment Pipes and Drums, won first place

The Winnipeg Scottish Festival was held on Saturday the 23rd of March at the downtown campus of the University of Winnipeg. Bill Peters, Pipe Major of The Lake Superior Scottish Regiment Pipes and Drums, won first place in the Open/Professional level of the Piobaireachd event in the solo competition at the festival.

"I'm delighted with the result today, having attended this festival for more than 20 years now. Refining my skills as an amateur piper through the years and now to gain success at the professional level is quite an achievement. I've made some changes since the 2018 season and now it's time to reap the benefits of those changes. Striving to become a better piper is always at the top of my list of priorities."

Peters hopes his passion for the music can be reflected back into the community, mainly through his band at the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment. Being the newest band in town, increasing their community footprint is definitely on their radar. "We are here and ready to showcase the Scottish military traditions within our community and in the northwest."
