Northwest Narwhal Swim Club brings home 10 medals

Seven swimmers of the Thunder Bay’s Northwest Narwhal Swim Club competed at the NYAC Cup in Toronto Nov. 1 - 3.

THUNDER BAY -- Seven swimmers of the Thunder Bay’s Northwest Narwhal Swim Club competed at the NYAC Cup in Toronto Nov. 1 - 3, which had more than 1,000 swimmers.

The 10 and under division was very strong for the Narwhals with Addison Lutz winning Gold in the 10 and under 100 meter Butterfly, Paige Brown winning gold in the 100 Breaststroke, Katherine Warkentin winning gold in the 50 Breaststroke and Elly Bodnar winning gold in the 100 Individual Medley Event. 

The Narwhals also had a good showing from their senior swimmers with Emma Covello, Diego Barcena-Martinez and Ana Barcena-Martinez all making multiple Final swims.

Addison Lutz, Katherine Warkentin, and Elly Bodnar have all made the Ontario Festival Championships which will be held in 2020.  Diego Barcena Martinez and Emma Covello have both qualified to go to the Ontario Youth/Junior Provincial Championships with Covello also qualifying for the Ontario Provincial Championships held in 2020 as well.

The Narwhals placed 13th out of 29 teams overall winning a combined 10 medals.  Addison Lutz placed 3rd for overall point award in her age group.The next stop for the Narwhals is in Dryden Nov 9 and 10 for the Dryden Dolphin Splash Invitational.  After that the Narwhals will be hosting their own meet, The Northwest Narwhal 20th Anniversary Regional Invitational sponsored by Massaro Contruction LTD. Nov 23 and 24 celebrating their 20th Year of making swimming memories.
