Peewee Sabres crowned champions in Minneapolis with Atom runners Up

KC Peewee AA Sabres returned home from Minneapolis as Champions after capturing the Gopher State President’s Cup tournament title. The Atom KC coming in 2nd in their final.

The KC Peewee AA Sabres returned home from Minneapolis as Champions after capturing the Gopher State President’s Cup tournament title.

After a hard fought 4-2 win against the North Carolina Force, the Sabres earned a rematch against the Minnetonka Skippers who squeaked out 2-1 win over the Sabres during round robin play.

The final would see the Sabres jump out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Nico Simeoni and Evan Simeoni.

After Minnetonka equalized the score at 2-2, the teams headed into the 3rd period tied.

The Sabres wouldn’t be denied, with Captain Dawson Boone scoring the winner with a blast from the point that beat the Minnetonka goalie with 1:51 to play.

From there, Sabres goalie Logan Briggs shut the door for the victory.

The KC Sabers Atom team pictured with local hero Eric Staal were runners up in their Presidents weekend tousle coming runners up to eventual Thunder Bay team the Westfort Rangers.

The tournament featured games in the covered outdoor arena were the Atom teams played there Championship game.
