Thunder Bay Diving Club makes big splash at Manitoba Provincial Championships (3 photos)

Thunder Bay Diving Club brings home 18 medals.

The Thunder Bay Diving Club had 13 divers in Winnipeg (our largest travel group this season), and for some, it was their first competition ever.

Our divers had remarkable results: Brock Balabuck (three gold), Madeleine Dagenais (one silver, two bronze), Maria Farmer (eighth ribbon), Walker Ross (one gold, one bronze), Lily Dixon (ninth), Jennie Farmer (10th), Michael Doerr (two gold, one bronze), Jaden Doerr (one gold, fourth ribbon, ninth), Kathryn Scofich (sixth, seventh and eighth ribbon), Sierra Okerlund sixth ribbon), Angus Neil (three gold), Graeme Napper (one silver, one bronze, fourth ribbon) and finally Christopher Lake-Voros (one gold).

Walker says “I always love seeing my opponents Vlad from Winnipeg and Freddie from Regina at these meets. It was also nice to hang out with my teammates and have fun cheering them on”.

“In the past two and a half months, Jaden has learned six new dives and competed against some of the best in Canada. On her last novice event she placed first and 17 points ahead of the next diver, her dedication paid off, I am so happy for her,” added Coach Bluchier.

In Novice B group, Sierra placed sixth on 1 metre springboard at her first-ever competition.

“Sierra worked extremely hard to get to this competition, in fact, she just learned two of the dives in the week leading up to the event and pulled them off like a natural, I am super proud of her.” said coach Bluchier.

Finally, “Chris placed first in the A group 3 metre springboard. It was his last competition with us after many seasons, as he has chosen to focus on his university studies next year. Best wishes Chris - you've made us proud!” said Coach Napper.

Coach Napper would also like to add “Congratulations to all our competitors! It was a good learning experience to close out the regular competitive season.”

Next up with the Thunder Bay Diving Club is the summer camps during the months of July and August. An excellent full-day program for fun and whole body fitness! TBDC offers a comprehensive and exciting introduction to the Olympic sport of diving, ages 7-12.
