THUNDER BAY -- On March 7, 2019, Royal LePage’s National Awards dinner was held in Toronto. The 2018 Shelter Award for Team of the Year, the most prestigious award, was awarded to Royal LePage Lannon Realty. Thunder Bay has donated hundreds of Baskets of Hope to the Basketeers Fundraiser, for our local Women’s Shelters.

Each year the recipients of the Shelter Awards have made an outstanding or extraordinary contribution of time and effort to their local community or to the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.

The people of Thunder Bay have been particularly sensitive and responsive towards helping women and children Escape Violence and rebuild their lives. Since the fall of 2010, Royal LePage Lannon Realty introduced the Basketeers Program to the community of Thunder Bay. With the help of some very generous donations and support from the people in our City, the Thunder Bay Basketeers group has been able to raise a total of 794 baskets with an estimated value of $198,000 over the last nine years baskets were then divided between the two local women shelters, Faye Peterson and Beendigan Inc. This year we were excited to announce the addition of Hope House managed by Adult and Teen Challenge! Royal LePage/Lannon realty is looking forward to organizing next year’s 10th Annual Basketeer’s Event.

On any given night close to 6,000 women and children in Canada stay in an emergency shelter because it is not safe for them to return home. At the same time, 300 are turned away each night because all the shelters are full. Even more tragic, is on average, every six days in Canada, a woman is killed by her current or former partner.

Nationally, Royal LePage offers the largest public foundation which funds women’s shelters and violence prevention Programs raising more than $27 million. Beyond the many fundraising events, there are programs for Royal LePage agents to donate a portion of their wage. This year, Christine Lannon of Royal LePage has been selected nationally to trek with a group of other Royal LePage agents and trek the Sahara Desert. She must cover her own expenses and raise a minimum of $5,000.
