Force encourages reporting of suspected violations, will use new powers of enforcement

Health Minister Patty Hajdu and medical officer of health Dr. Janet DeMille say anyone who does travel should take strong precautions to avoid bringing COVID-19 back to Northwestern Ontario.

Medical officer of health at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit says upon receiving confirmation of a positive test at Ecole Gron Morgan Public School, she and her staff immediately began the process of contact tracing to help contain the spread.

Order comes from senior administration after a student at Ecole Gron Morgan tested positive for COVID-19 and stems from what a union leader calls a misunderstanding of public health guidelines. Order in place for any teacher or staff while interacting with students.

Dr. Stewart Kennedy says discussions are underway with the public and Catholic school boards.

Pre-screening in place, some activities must be booked ahead of time, but other than that, it's essentially business as usual, other than the usual COVID-19 precautions.

Tests are available for the clinic's 'target population.'
