THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting 244 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 since Friday.

According to data published Monday by TBDHU, the district's active case count stands at 355, which is 25 more than on Friday.

However, because testing has been restricted to certain groups since Jan. 1, the health unit says the data is a significant under-representation of COVID-19 activity.

During the week of Jan. 9 to 15, about 23 per cent of people who were tested for the virus tested positive.

The positivity rate was 17.6 per cent the previous week.

The health unit's online COVID-19 dashboard shows 47 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, including eight in intensive care.

These figures include any patients from outside the Thunder Bay district who may have been admitted.

Across the district, there are currently 21 active outbreaks in high-risk settings, but only selected locations have been disclosed.

TBDHU on Monday implemented changes in how it reports COVID-related data.

It will now update its online dashboard only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
