Area beer drinkers are being asked to participate in the world's largest bottle drive this coming weekend.
The Beer Store and its employees' union are joining forces with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada to host the annual fundraiser. Residents in Thunder Bay and the rest of Ontario are being encouraged to drop off their empties on May 29th and 30th, with all proceeds going to the leukemia research.
Last year, the 440 Beer Store outlets collected about 8-million empty beer, wine and liquor bottles, and raised $830,000 for the fight against the number one killer disease for children in Canada.
This year organizers hope to raise $1 million with 100 per cent of all deposit refunds donated to the charity.
