Traffic issues are in store for people planning on attending Confederation College’s graduation ceremonies Friday.
Construction work is now underway on Beverly Street, which impacts many drivers heading to the Community Auditorium. The city will open up one lane Friday at the Balmoral Street intersection in an effort to alleviate the problem.
The road has been shut down for about a week as city crews work to replace an aging water main.
On top of the road closure, Balmoral has also been reduced to three lanes due to construction.
The $1.6-million project will upgrade the water main that services the south-side of the city.
The road will also be resurfaced and widened to allow a bike lane.
Drivers should be prepared to use alternative routes as Beverly Street will be periodically closed between Balmoral and Winnipeg until mid-September.
City project Engineer Brian Newman says this is a preventive measure.
Newman adds that there will be one eastbound lane on Beverly Street open between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for Friday’s college convocation.
