THUNDER BAY -- There was more than just caffeine giving people an extra spark on Wednesday.

Tim Hortons kicked off Camp Day, an annual charity event funded by Canadians who love coffee.

On this day each year, all coffee sales and donations across Canada are donated to the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation.

The foundation raises money to send thousands of children from low-income families to go to camp.

“Last year we raised over $13.1 million dollars with everyone involved,” Danielle Clark, the Camp Day organizer said.

“It’s not just about going to camp, it’s about meeting friends, growing, learning, and everything that this child wouldn’t get without going to camp.”

Clark, who is also an assistant regional manager at the java chain's Memorial Avenue location, said it’s a day the staff looks forward to every year.

“It’s a blast. We’re also washing car windows with Wolfie in drive-through for donations, we have a cup for kids game for prizes, and firefighters for moral support.”

Clark added Tim Hortons sent approximately 20,000 kids across Canada to camp last year, and hope to exceed the total this time around.
