Charges upgraded to attempt murder in serious assault investigation

Ontario Provincial Police have upgraded the charges against a 30-year-old individual from aggravated assault to attempted murder.

FORT FRANCES — A resident of Big Grassy First Nation has now been charged with attempt murder following an investigation into a serious assault that occurred last weekend.

Gabriel Tuesday, 30, was originally charged with aggravated assault by OPP following a serious assault on Saturday, March 20 Fort Frances.

In a news release issued on Friday, March 26, police say the charges against Tuesday have now been upgraded. The accused remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance, police say.

Officers with the Rainy River District OPP initially responded just after 5 a.m. on March 20 to an assault with a weapon that took place in the 200-block of Scott Street in Fort Frances. 

The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
