Administration is looking at how much it's going to cost to repair all three of the city's outdoor pools.
Council had asked administration to look at placing the repairs for Heath Park Pool into the 2013 budget. The repairs are estimated to cost about $250,000. Administrating asked council to hold off on placing the repairs into this year’s budget until an updated assessment could be made.
The assessment will include the condition of the city’s three outdoor pools and identify any other problems.
Michael Smith, general manager for the city’s facilities, fleet and transit services, said once they know how much work is needed to fix the pools then they will add it to the 2014 budget.
“We anticipate the pools will be up and operational as normal,” Smith said. “We would continue to do the day-to-day maintenance as required to keep them operational for the public. The pools are aged. We’re anticipating that it is probably going to be a $500,000 range for repairs based on early assessments.”
Smith said they haven’t ruled out any options yet including possibly closing down the pools but added that’s not something they anticipate.
A report on all three pools is expected in June.
