One of the city’s largest events is a month away and celebrations are expected to rock the marina.
The city of Thunder Bay has announced its celebration plans for Canada Day.
Events supervisor Ash Young said there will be a number of musical performances, including a musical act from Poor Angus with local fiddler Andrew Bryan that will take the main stage July 1.
“We wanted to bring back the home town fiddler. It’s been a goal of ours for a few years and this year we finally pulled it off and we have him in town,” Young said.
Young added the festival will also have a second stage with performances throughout the day.
Prince Arthur’s Landing will host a variety of community group demonstrations and activities including paddle boating, canoeing, kayaking and a dragon boat.
Young said the night will come to a close with a $20,000 fireworks show starting at 11 p.m.
Recreation and culture programmer Laura Montgomery said there will be a few new activities presented this year.
“We have a ceremony in the spirit garden. It’s a traditional Indigenous ceremony, a sharing circle and a pipe ceremony that people are welcomed to join,” Montgomery said.
There will also be activities at the Baggage Building Art Centre. A variety of acoustic musical performances, ThunderCon, inflatable play structures, face painting and games.
Montgomery wants to remind people that the park will be closed to traffic Canada Day but free shuttle buses will be available from Intercity Mall and Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre.
