The city unveiled new waterfront art Tuesday morning.
Lethbridge, Alta., artist Andy Davies created the new piece of art for Thunder Bay's Marina. There are three water drops sculpted at one end of the piece, which represents the city. A single sculpted water drop at the other of the piece represents a traveller.
Davies said the idea is to represent travellers returning home to Thunder Bay.
“Thunder Bay is very ambitious, they’re way out in front in the art world in terms of creating an art scene and an art culture,” Davies said to media during the unveiling.
The cost to the city for the display was $100,000.
“The commission came with a suggested fee, and so as an artist you consider that and then look for inspiration beyond that,” he said.
The price of actually creating the piece, including materials and construction, are also factors in the price of an art project.
