THUNDER BAY — After a broken garbage can was left behind when the city's Solid Waste & Recycling truck pulled away from the curb, Sandro Reccia decided he'd had enough.

It was garbage pickup day on May 29 at his northside Thunder Bay neighbourhood, and he was not pleased with what he'd just observed.

Video captured on a security camera media showed a worker opening the lid on one of the containers and throwing a couple of pizza boxes to the ground.

After depositing the remaining contents in the truck, he then hurled the container violently to the driveway before emptying the second container and tossing it to the ground as well.

When the truck left, there was a garbage bag sitting on the road.

Reccia told Newswatch one of his garbage cans was damaged in the incident.

"I have no idea why he did that," he said. "It was terrible. You make that effort to take the garbage out. Why not just dump the garbage into the truck?"

He said he's experienced two similar incidents involving different workers.

Reccia took the video to city hall and filed a complaint.

The city released a statement Monday from Jason Sherband, manager of solid waste and recycling, who said the city is aware of the incident and is taking "appropriate action," adding there will be no further comment as this is an internal matter.
