SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – Confederation College students going forward will find it easier to transfer their credits to a degree program at Sault Ste. Marie’s Algoma University.

The two schools on Tuesday announced they’d signed a joint admissions agreement that should reduce the time, cost and barriers to transfer from a diploma program at the Thunder Bay college into a degree program at Algoma University.

“Confederation College puts access and success for students at the forefront, and this joint admissions agreement is in full support of that effort. We are pleased to be partnering with Algoma University to provide additional pathways and opportunities for students. Reducing barriers surrounding the transition to university will enable more students to take the next step in achieving their educational dreams,” said Don Duclos, Confederation College registrar, in a release issued to media on Tuesday.

David Marasco, the registrar at Algoma University, said it’s a decision that will benefit both schools, but most importantly their students.
“The agreement is student centric which allows students a seamless and transparent transition to many degree opportunities at Algoma University. We look forward to working closely with Confederation to support pathway and student access agreements,” Marasco said.

Students can receive joint admission to Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, and Brampton in any of the university’s degree programs.
