City council approved a $1.2 million contract to rehabilitate some of Northwood’s water mains and storm sewers.

Council ratified the decision at Monday night’s meeting and awarded the contract to Prime Terra Group Inc. The work will focus on specific areas of Northwood including Ashland Place, James Street and Limbrick Place.

Cambrian Crescent and Sycamore Avenue will also see some construction as crews work on the storm sewers.

The storm sewer work is separate from the Hatch Mott McDonald Neighbourhood Storm Water Drainage Study that is expected to be completed in the fall.

Northwood Coun. Mark Bentz said these are going to be major construction projects.

“This was work that was planned for some time,” he said. “It is outside of the drainage study. There’s still more work to be done but we have to wait to see what the recommendations are going to be. There’s going to be a lot going on in Northwood potentially for the next few years.”

The construction is expected to start sometime in the summer.

He added that Victoria Avenue’s storm sewer is also getting some work done between James Street and Edward Street this season. That project has already gone out for tender.
