The city should have two transit terminals and overhaul its route system a transit master plan update states.
GENIVAR’s Dennis Fletcher, who was been working on the city’s plan, provided an update to city council Monday night presenting them briefly with six route options.
While a draft plan is not expected until December, Fletcher told the city that the preferred option would see five major transfer points with a terminal near Intercity and one near water street. The other three transfer points would be near Confederation College, Lakehead University and the city’s south core featuring shelters with no amenities.
The option, which is dubbed a "door-to-door concept" would promote ridership and get more people to where they want to go more quickly.
"We’ve tried to present a plan that we think is a balance," Fletcher said. "That was an overall objective of the plan."
Coun. Larry Hebert asked why there wasn’t a Neebing route in the preferred option. Fletcher said the route couldn’t be supported in a new transit system the way it is now.
"It certainly is the poorest performer in the system," Fletcher said.
Public consultation meetings on the route rationalization and overall master plan will be held Tuesday at the CLE Colesium at 2 p.m. and again at 6 p.m.
