City Council will get an update on where the 2011 budget currently sits on Monday night.

The third quarter variance report will be coming forward and will include a large budget overrun from Thunder Bay Police. The police budget is more than $1 million in the red.

Mayor Keith Hobbs said the news is very concerning.  That overrun is partially being blamed on overtime and un-budgeted special projects.

In other matters, the potential for a $35-million research facility will be put to rest for the time being.

The NORD 21 project, a collaborative research facility planned for the campus of Lakehead University will be removed from the City's outstanding list.

The three-storey facility would require funding from other levels of government, money that is not expected to flow in the immediate future.

Council will also have to hold off on a report into how a $500,000 grant is being used.

The City floated ReGen Med the money in July and was to receive monthly updates.

A report is now expected at the end of November.
