COVID-19 linked to two more deaths in the Thunder Bay area

117 people have now died since the onset of the pandemic.

THUNDER BAY — The death toll during the COVID-19 pandemic has climbed to 117 in the District of Thunder Bay.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Thursday disclosed the deaths of two more individuals over the past week.

In each case, the virus was determined to be either the underlying or a contributing cause of death.

TBDHU also reported there were 36 people in district hospitals who tested positive for the virus, including four in intensive care.

The percentage of COVID-19 tests returning a positive result remains higher than the rest of Ontario.

During the 7-day period that ended on Sept. 20, the positivity test rate in the Thunder Bay area was 19.5 per cent, compared with 11.1 per cent for the province as a whole.

The area's positivity test rate has surpassed the Ontario rate since July 23, 2022.
