THUNDER BAY — An outbreak of COVID-19 in a section of St. Joseph's Hospital has grown.

It was initially declared on Monday on 5 North, where Geriatric Assessment and Rehabilitative Services are located.

On Tuesday, the hospital and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit said the outbreak had expanded to 5 South.

TBDHU and St. Joseph's Care Group are working together to manage the situation, the health unit said in a release.

The most recent data published by the health unit showed there were four active outbreaks of COVID-19 in high-risk settings in the Thunder Bay area.

High-risk settings include hospitals (including complex continuing care facilities) and congregate living settings, including long-term care homes, retirement homes, group homes, shelters, hospices, and correctional institutions.
