COVID-19 outbreak declared at Chartwell Hilldale retirement home

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit says it is assessing the situation, and will take measures as needed

THUNDER BAY — An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at the Chartwell Hilldale retirement residence on Hilldale Road in Thunder Bay.

The outbreak was declared Tuesday morning by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and the operator, Chartwell Retirement Residences.

The health unit does not disclose how many residents or staff have tested positive when outbreaks are declared in high-risk settings.

It said it has initiated a thorough assessment of the situation, and that further measures will be taken as needed to manage the situation.

The facility has approximately 100 units.

In its most recent update of COVID-related data, the health unit reported on Oct. 19 that there were five active outbreaks in high-risk settings in the Thunder Bay area.
