Stolen firearms recovered and male charged

RAINY RIVER – An unidentified 41-year-old male has been charged with multiple property and firearm offences after a break and enter in the Rainy River District, according to a release from the Ontario Provincial Police.

On June 13, members of the OPP from the Rainy River District crime unit, the Northwest Regional Emergency Response Unit, canine unit, and Forensic Identification Services responded to a report of a break and enter and theft of firearms. 

The incident occurred at a residence on Highway 613 North in the Rainy River District.

The male had broken into a residence, removed multiple items, and attempted to steal a vehicle which was on the property, police said. The male then left on foot, stealing multiple firearms and other household items. 

The OPP investigation led police officers to recover the household items and all the stolen firearms.

An arrest warrant was issued for the male.  He was arrested on July 5 and charged with multiple property and firearm offences.  He appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 6, with a future court date scheduled for July 26 in the Town of Fort Frances

The OPP asks the public to report suspicious activity by calling 1-888-310-1122, or anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
