Donation to help families rest easy

Company gives beds to Faye Peterson House

THUNDER BAY – Coming to the Faye Peterson House may be one of the hardest decisions many of its clients have to make. And while leaving the shelter is a positive step, it comes with its own challenges.

“When women and children come to us, they often don’t have a lot with them,” says Executive Director Debbie Zweep. “They’ve often left in crisis.”

Zweep says clients sometimes come with little more than clothing, which leaves them without basics like bedding when transitioning back into their own home in the community. A recent donation from Ashley Homestore’s Thunder Bay location aims to help address that need.

The store announced a donation of seven youth beds to Faye Peterson at its Balmoral Street location Tuesday. The twin-sized beds come with a pillow and bamboo sheets. Store Manager Mat Allan says he has a similar setup at his own home.

“We want to make sure everyone has nice furniture,” he says, “especially children.”

Zweep says Faye Peterson is at capacity right now, with around 200 women and more than that number of children in the shelter program.

A portion of every Ashley HomeStore mattress set goes to Hope to Dream, a program designed to provide a free twin mattress, boxspring and bed frame to underprivileged children.
