A speedy motorist trying to make it to work on time may have to leave a bit earlier for his shifts after police impounded his pickup truck.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say a pair of officers on patrol spotted a pickup truck driving at an “extremely high rate of speed” at about 5:30 a.m. The two officers were patrolling Highway 61 between Arthur Street at the Highway 11-17 intersection at the time.

The officers turned to follow the vehicle and paced it before stopping the driver near John Street.

Police say officers clocked the vehicle travelling about 150 km/h, and paced it at a speed of 170 km/h.

Police say the 36-year-old male driver explained that he was late for work and feared he would miss his ride.

His vehicle was impounded for seven days, his license has been suspended at the roadside and he will be appearing in court for charges of stunt driving and speeding.
