THUNDER BAY -- An ambulance rushed a woman to hospital after emergency services were called to a crash on the city's south side that is believed to have been caused by a medical issue.

Police said the Thursday morning incident happened when a silver pickup truck driven by a 56-year-old woman was travelling west on Walsh Street when it collided with another vehicle at the Brown Street intersection. The truck then continued northwest where it collided with a house and parked vehicle in a driveway at the corner of the intersection.

It is believed a medical issue occurred prior to the collision, police added. The woman was rushed to hospital by ambulance with a police escort along Edward Street and Golf Links Road. Police said the woman remains in hospital in serious condition.

The 86-year-old driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

Officers closed the intersection for several hours as they conducted an investigation, which remains ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the police's traffic unit.
