Fort William First Nation has just kicked off a four day conference, called Respecting the Past, Embracing the Future.
Planning for future economic growth, the plan includes partnering with Cliffs Natural Resources to get a chromite plant in the area.
Fort William First Nations Chief Peter Collins said the community has a specific one-year plan.
“We’ve set up a one-year window of opportunity to put a plan in place to determine how we will spend revenue moving forward,” he said.
“We are going to have a substantial amount of money coming in within a one-year time frame. So we need to plan with our members, we need to create a focus for our community and where we want to be in the future.”
Collins said they intend to focus on health issues, such as drug problems.
