A local business is hoping to get more western exposure soon.

The Thunder Bay Metal Fabricators Association has received $195,000 from FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program, to increase its exposure through parts of Western Canada.

The association is already working with other companies across western Canada.

Chair John Jurcik said the grant money will be used to hire a salesperson in Saskatchewan.

“We have one sales person who is based out of Calgary and we are going to increase that to another person for Saskatchewan,” he said.

“Without the funding we could not have done it. We need local flavor, so people who have been in the area can provide us with insight on the people we need to see.”

Jurcik added that working with companies out west makes sense, because the local metal fabricators produce similar work in the pulp and paper and mining sectors.
