Firefighters were busy battling a blaze on the city’s south side Monday morning.

A house fire on Minnesota Street sent flames through the roof and thick smoke spilling into the air and onto the street around 10 a.m. Monday.

Husband and wife Chris and Jodi Davidson, who happen to be volunteer firefighters with East Gorham, were stopped at the intersection of Simpson Street and Pacific Avenue when the saw the smoke and called in the fire.

Arriving at the house they saw two brothers standing outside.

“They seemed pretty dazed,” Chris Davidson said. “They were in shock I think. As long as everybody got out that’s all that matters.”

The two wanted to go back in to save their cat but Davidson’s told them it wasn’t a good idea because of the smoke.

“As soon as we saw the guys we wanted to get them away (from the house),” Jodi Davidson said.

Firefighters with the Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue were climbing the home and attacking the upper level with axes as the blaze went on.

The extent of the damage to the home appeared severe, with smoke and fire damage visible throughout the structure.

No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.

The investigation continues.
