Five new forest fires reported Monday, four human caused: MNR

One new forest fire was confirmed in this area on Saturday, Oct. 1, while another five new fires were reported Monday evening. 

Officials with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources report that the Oct. 1 fire in the Fort Frances district is now out. That fire was measured at 0.4 hectares in size.

Of the five fires reported Monday, the MNR believes four were human-caused. The cause of the fifth fire is unknown at this time.

Those five fires were reported in the districts of Dryden, Nipigon, Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay.

As of Monday, 33 active fires were burning in the Northwest Region. Since April 1, the region has recorded 884 new forest fires, covering an area of 630,217 hectares.
