THUNDER BAY -- Icy conditions after a night of freezing rain has led all local school boards to shut their facilities for the day and cancel all bus routes.

The Thunder Bay Christian School is also closed on Wednesday because of the weather, a decision mirrored by officials at

A bulletin issued by the college says the cafeteria will remain open for students, but all other non-essential personnel have been advised to stay home. Students on work placements are being advised to check with their employer to determine whether or not the workplace is open, while students in the region are being asked to check with their local campus to determine the satellite campus' status.

The school closures will have a trickle-down effect on some local child care centres.

Woodcrest and Ogden Lake child care centres will be closed as a result of the decision.

Also closed on Wednesday is the Thunder Bay Art Gallery and all branches of the Thunder Bay Public Library, as well as the offices of the Children's Aid Society, Dilico Anishnabek Family Care, the District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration, Thunder Bay District Health Unit and Canada Post mail carriers, will not be delivering mail until conditions improve.

There will be no garbage collection Wednesday.
